Apple TV Update?

September 20, 2013 - Dave Hecei

airplay_screen The rumors may actually be true about a new Apple TV model coming soon. Apple is soon to release an updated OS for the little black hockey puck - if hockey pucks were square. This new OS release might be on the heels of a newer unit.

The Apple TV is a curious unit that, as Apple is using it, sits between you and your TV. With it you can watch and listen to your iTunes library, plus a whole lot more. Probably the most important feature today is something called AirPlay. This is the ability to push the contents of the Mac or iOS device to your big screen TV. You can mirror the screen of your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch to an HDTV connected to an Apple TV.

When the next Mac OS is released, later this fall, your Mac will be able to use the Apple TV as a second (or third) monitor. This is going to be a huge feature, and one that will take a bit of power. This power could come in the form of the new A7 processor that is currently in the new iPhone 5S. An Apple TV with this processor could easily handle the job.

To add extra fuel to the rumor fire, Apple has just recently dropped the price of the refurbished Apple TV to only $75. This might just be Apple getting rid of a warehouse full of 2012 models. Hopefully to make room for the new 2013 Apple TV.
