A New Home in the Old World

September 3, 2013 - Nicholas Terry
I've mentioned before that I love me some alt-country and folk music. I don't go out seeking bands in these genres because frankly it's out of my element, and I don't know where to start. I have some trusty friends that I turn to for the goods. Boy, have they shown me some amazing bands like Drag the River, Two Cow Garage, and Lucero.

However, I'm reserving this space for the voice of an angel. He's covered in tattoos and flannel, but his voice is otherworldly. Austin Lucas writes folk music that would make Willy Nelson proud. Considering he was invited to play with the man himself, the statement has some credibility. I first heard him play a song called "Go West", and I was entranced. His voice is so strong and so unique. There's a slight twang at times, a quick snarl in the heat of emotion, and the cleanest singing that would put most pop singers to shame. He sings songs of heartbreak, traveling, and the trials any soul on this earth would go through.

He just released an album, Stay Reckless, on August 27th, and it stands up to everything else he has done. Listening to it, I don't know how modern country radio has not gotten a hold of him yet. The man is about to blow up. Or he won't, and he'll stay a precious jewel for those who have had the pleasure of listening to him. Stay Reckless was funded through his fans through Kickstarter. It's great to see other people appreciate his work as much as I do. This album literally was made with money from people who wanted to hear more from him.

This album he finally has a full band backing him. When you've got great songs it doesn't matter if it's just the singer or a fleshed out band, they will still be great. I believe he's set to take country music by storm, and I for one think it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Sit back, listen, and enjoy. The songs will speak for themselves, and make you a fan more than anything I can say in this humble blog. Cheers!
