New Mini Coming?
July 26, 2013 - Dave Hecei
This morning, Macrumors.com posted a report that suggests the possibility of a immanent Mac mini refresh. On the Apple Store web site, the mini lists that it has a shipping time of five to seven days. Most Macs have a shipping time of 24 hours.
While the fact that Apple has slipped the shipping times of the mini does not mean that current stock is getting low. This could just be an inventory adjustment. Apple updated the MacBook Air last month to the new Intel Haswell processor. This new chipset from Intel will eventually find its way into other Macs like the MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini.
Apple hardly ever pre-announces any hardware updates, at least not until it is ready to start shipping. The only exception to this in recent memory is the preview of the upcoming Mac Pro that was shown during this year’s WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference).
So I wouldn’t start holding your breath just yet. But this tidbit does give hope to the possibility of a new Mac mini sometime in the next few weeks – maybe even this coming Tuesday.
UPDATED: Well, it looks like the mini is not coming any time real soon. Inventory seems to have returned so it's hard to say when Apple will release a new mini. Since the release of Intel's latest versions of their desktop and laptop processor chipsets back in June, Apple has only updated the MacBook Air. New versions of the mini, iMac, and MacBook Pro could come any day. The most likely delay is Apple is waiting to ship any new Mac with OS X 10.9 - Mavericks, which is due sometime this fall. Also, remember that the new iteration of the Mac Pro is due by the end of the year and is to be assembled in the USA.
