Maybe This Year
October 3, 2012 - Dave Hecei
There seems to be this air of anticipation. Sort of like everyone holding their breath waiting for something to appear. The only thing that could possibly do something like this is the elusive iPad mini.
Rumors throughout the summer were pretty much dead on about the iPhone 5. It has LTE, bigger screen, faster everything, new dock connector, and even a newer 'nano-SIM' card. Rumors are still readily flying around about an Apple iPad mini. They have it set as a smaller iPad based on the specs of the still shipping iPad 2. The difference being a slightly smaller 7.85-inch screen instead of 9.7.
The only problem is that it is now October and the iPhone has only just hit the shelves. They don't stay there very long. The iPhone 5 is the best selling iPhone yet and Apple, or anyone else, just can't make tens of millions of these things overnight.
Then there is the fact that the new dock on the iPhone has everyone up in arms since there are no adapters yet. They are supposed to be coming sometime this month along with an all new version of iTunes (version 11?). There has been no word from Apple yet about another press event, which does have a few tech pundits wondering if there might even be one this month.
The problem with not releasing a new iPad mini this month is the loss of holiday sales. If they announce the mini late in the month and start selling sometime in November. That is too late.
Now we might be able to reach another conclusion. If Apple is just now starting to manufacture the mini it really wouldn't be ready until January. This might be a coincidence, but this is around the time that iPads have been announced.
It still might show up later this month, but I'm starting to hedge my bet and say that the iPad mini might not debut until January with the 'new' new iPad.
