12 Days of Gifts - Day 1

December 5, 2011 - Dave Hecei

Thanks for the memories. Anyone who owns a Mac, or even a Windows PC, can use memory. I’m not talking about the RAM inside the computer, but extra flash RAM storage drives. Some call these devices ‘thumb drives’.

These drives are little dongles that plug into a USB port. They come in all shapes and sizes and colors. They also come in different storage amounts. They are also at the lowest prices ever for this type of storage.

My recommendation for USB flash drives is to get the most storage you can afford. Not too long ago, these used to only be available in the Megabyte range (MB). Today the most common size is 4 Gigabytes (GB), but they can have even more storage – 8, 16, 32, 64, even 128GB. 4GB of storage can be found for well under $10, and 8GB well under $20. The higher up you go, so does the pricing.

I like the SanDisk Cruzer line. They have a retractable plug design so there are no caps to loose. In the several brands that I have used, I haven’t had a single problem with SanDisk. Well, the only problem is losing them. Here’s an important tip – check all your pockets before doing laundry.
