Library Board Thankful For Fundraiser Support
To The Reader’s Forum:
The Board of Trustees of the Lakewood Memorial Library would like to extend its deepest gratitude to all who supported our first-ever fall fundraiser, “Food for Thought”, on September 22. The event was truly a celebration of community, and the outpouring of support from community members and local businesses exceeded our wildest expectations.
Ninety-six people filled the library that night. We were pleased to welcome the Mayor and trustee representatives from the Village of Lakewood and the Town of Busti Council. County Legislators George Borrello and Lisa Vanstrom (who also serves as assistant to Senator Cathy Young) also came to lend their support. Guests of all ages, ranging from 1 to 95 years old, enjoyed an incredible tasting of foods supplied by local caterers featuring the best of the Chautauqua County harvest. The current exhibit of our Library’s history spurred many to share their personal memories of the important role the library has played in their lives throughout the decades.
Combining this setting where old friends could come together with the opportunity to meet new neighbors worked so well, we were urged by many attendees to make this library celebration an annual event. At a time when libraries everywhere are struggling to identify their role within their communities, it was most encouraging to realize the special place the Lakewood Memorial Library holds in the hearts of local residents.
We board members look forward to a bright future for our library and are constantly exploring new ways to improve and expand the essential services it provides. We were deeply touched to discover how many people, from all walks of life, support us in our mission.
