Reader Believes Schools Districts Should Be Merged
To The Reader’s Forum:
I noticed a large article in Sunday’s Post-Journal written by John Whittaker, Editor. Since the 2007-2008 school year, Chautauqua County has lost 2,689 students. However spending is up $84,276,483 since 2007-08 in Chautauqua County schools. What a deal?
We need to merge the 19 central schools into three or four schools. Yeserday, I visited a large price sale on Niets Crest in Ashville on the shore of Chautauqua Lake. The gentleman stated the property has been sold by a realtor to people from Erie. The total taxes on this four to five acres up to Route 394 frontage is over $60,000 a year for school, county and town taxes. This beautiful home and boat house is pristine. However, the east wind was blowing across Chautauqua Lake and it smelled like sewage!
I wonder when the sewer pipes will be laid and installed to form adequate capacity to handle run-off and approved leach fields or septic tanks south of Chautauqua Institute’s outdated sewer plant?
