Make Our Neighborhood Great Again

To the Readers’ Forum:

The residents of Spring Street won a small victory on a Tuesday morning recently, when the city boarded up 869 Spring street, which was vacant and left open for over a month. Now we need a larger victory and have Jackson Spring Apartments funded.

I am calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Senator Cathy Young and Assemblyman Andy Goodell to help us Make Our Neighborhood Great Again.

I am calling on the Gebbie Foundation, tory Irgang from the United Way and Dan Kathman, who retired from the school district, to end their opposition to our effort to rejuvenate our neighborhood. Tory Irgang is the president of Gebbie and also runs the United Way. I also want to know what the United Way’s position is. Do they support people tearing down bad housing to rejuvenate our neighborhood or do they support having people live in dilapidated houses? Our city has always supported the United Way and it is horrible that Tory Irgang and Gebbie aren’t supporting us. We need the entire community to get behind all development efforts, not just the downtown stuff where no one lives. We live in this neighborhood and we support this. They don’t live here and they don’t represent us.
