Labor Rep On County IDA Board Is The Right Move

Later this week, there is expected to be a welcome change to the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency. County Executive George Borrello, at a luncheon on Saturday in Dunkirk, indicated there will be a representative from labor on the board of directors.

Borrello told the area labor leaders at Point Gratiot he would be appointing Steve Thorpe from the Sheet Metal Workers Union. Applause from the group followed.

It has been quite awhile since labor has been represented on the IDA board. Borrello’s appointment makes sense while bringing a different set of views to an evolving agency.

Labor is an important ingredient to future development in this county. It also is a step to having more voices at the table.
