As spring and summer event lineups have begun trickling in, it’s clear Chautauqua County will offer the region a wide range of entertainment options this year. Now, it’s up to area residents to support them.

The Lucille Ball-Dezi Arnaz Center will bring in Bill Engvall and Kathleen Madigan to headline its summer comedy festival Aug. 1-4. The center also booked comedian Martin Short as the featured performer for the Lucy Town Half-Marathon and 5K weekend this fall. Like Engvall and Madigan, Short is a nationally known performer whom area and regional comedy fans should be excited to see live.

With an equally impressive lineup, Chautauqua Institution readies to launch its Friday night popular entertainment series June 28 with an Amphitheater performance by Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers. The season also includes performances by Travis Tritt, The Beach Boys, KC & The Sunshine Band and the Village People.

For the 22nd time, the Great Blue Heron Festival will be held in Sherman from July 5-7. A wide range of local and touring acts will be featured, some of whom include Lake Street Drive, The Campbell Brothers, Donna The Buffalo and Big Leg Emma.

Those who prefer some indoor entertainment might consider a visit to Jamestown Savings Bank Arena. The arena continues its own comedy series each Friday, and the Jordan World Circus will make a stop at the arena for multiple shows May 13. The Big City Concert Series will return to the arena patio Friday nights, beginning June 14.

The Jamestown Jammers will launch their home schedule in style with fireworks June 20 at Russell Diethrick Park. The team’s home games will continue throughout the summer.

Park 60 Drive-In has opened for business once again with Friday, Saturday and Sunday night double features. Local residents will have several months to enjoy the best spring and summer films from the comforts of their automobiles.

Just outside county lines, the Seneca Allegany Casino and Hotel’s Summer Rush Concert Series features B.B King, Jeff Dunham, Alabama, Howie Mandel, and Huey Lewis and the News.

As per usual, many other cultural and music festivals will be held throughout the area during the summer season, along with numerous outdoor concerts series, bar shows, parades and town picnics.

With a plethora of things to do as the weather gets nicer, area residents who stay in will be doing so by choice – not because they can’t find anything to do. The “there’s nothing to do here” line should be met with laughs in the coming months. Chautauqua County has a lot to offer.
