Margaret E. “Betty” Mecusker

Margaret E. “Betty” Mecusker, 89, of 842 N. Main St., Jamestown, formerly of Dutch Hollow Road, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born Nov. 27, 1929, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Thorsten and Greta Broman Thorstenson.

Betty was a 1947 graduate of Jamestown High School, where she was first chair violinist in the high school orchestra, and she volunteered as a candy striper at the former Jamestown General Hospital. She was a member of the Fluvanna Community Church.

She had worked at Johnson’s Bakery in Fluvanna, Revco Drugstore, the Resource Center and for many years was a Foster Grandparent at Persell and Love schools.

Betty enjoyed reading, puzzles, bingo and playing games with her great- grandchildren. She was very supportive of her family and was always there when they needed her.

Surviving are a daughter, Margaret “Mickey” (Richard) Hamilton of Stockton, N.Y.; two sons: W. Dudley “Bud” (Cindy) Mecusker of Menomonie, Wis., and Patrick A. (Pamela) Mecusker of Jamestown; 10 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren, including Nathan Stearns, who she helped raise.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. Dudley Mecusker whom she married Oct. 23, 1948, and who died Oct. 18, 1995; two daughters: Mary Lou Mecusker and Nancy M. Bimber; a son, James A. Mecusker; and a brother, Arthur “Pete” Thorstenson.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund will officiate.

Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Sunday and for one hour prior to the service Monday in the funeral home.
