Joy L. Eckwahl

A native of Somerset County, Pa., she was born March 27, 1928, a daughter of the late Roy and Lara Abbott Marshall.

She attended First Church of God and was a member of War Vets Recreation and Vikings.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a passion for tending her beautiful flower gardens. Many people took time to drive past her house to view the flowers and ask Joy for the secret to her green thumb.

Her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease never claimed all of her. She kept her smile and always had an “I love you.” The family wishes to thank the staff of Heritage Village, Lisa Erickson PA and longtime physician Dr. John LaMancuso for the wonderful and compassionate care provided.

Surviving are two children: Marsha (Jim) Bonfiglio of Lakewood and Randall (Karen) Eckwahl of Lapeer, Mich.; daughter-in- law, Sue Eckwahl of Elma, N.Y.; four grandchildren: Stephen Eckwahl, Jason Soderlund, Jill Soderlund and Dr. Matthew Eckwahl; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gloria Waite of Jamestown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Eckwahl, whom she married April 5, 1947, and who died Dec. 1, 2001; a son, Terry Eckwahl; three brothers: William, Roy and Charles Marshall; and three sisters Leona Satterlund, Ruth Whitfield and Virginia Marshall.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will not be observed.
