Noralyn (LeFort) Berger

Noralyn (LeFort) Berger, age 92, of East Randolph, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at home with her 3 children and her caregivers by her side.

She was born on Aug. 17, 1926, in the Town of Java, the daughter of the late August and Celia (Graves) LeFort.

Mrs. Berger was a 1944 graduate of Arcade Central School and a 1948 graduate of the New York State College for Teachers at Buffalo (now Buffalo State College), where she met her future husband, Jack.

She was retired from twenty-five years of teaching; two years in Kenmore and twenty-three in Cattaraugus County schools. Mrs. Berger served as secretary of the Cattaraugus Library Board and Sunday School Superintendent at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Cattaraugus. She also served as a leader for all levels of Girl Scouts, with eight years on the Chautauqua Area Girl Scout Board and many years on the Girl Scout Property Committee, including one year as Chairman.

Mrs. Berger was a member of the Randolph United Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, four terms as an Elder and one term as a Deacon. She was a member of the East Randolph Firemen’s Auxiliary, the East Randolph Cemetery Board, and a past member of the Grange.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, tending her gardens, playing cards, and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Berger is survived by her children: Diane (Paul) Hennessy of West Palm Beach, Fla., Carol (Wayne) Wellman of Louisville, Ken., and Duane (Janice) Berger of Doswell, Va., nine grandchildren: Scott (Amanda) Hennessy, Sean Hennessy (Hannah), Heather (Mark) Gonzalez, Holly (Kyle) Mechmet, Shannon Hennessy, Daniel (Colette) Wellman, Aaron (Jacki) Wellman, Chris Berger, and Emily Berger, as well as four great-grandchildren, Giselle and Nathan Hennessy, Caden Gonzalez and Lucas Wellman.

She was preceded by her husband Jack Berger, whom she married on July 1, 1950, who preceded her on January 28, 2011, a grand- daughter Lauren Elain Berger on April 13, 1991, and infandt sister; Thurley Lefort and infant brother Lefort.

The family will receive family and friends from 2-5 Saturday (September 8, 2018) in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Randolph United Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Molly Golando will officiate. Burial will be in the East Randolph Cemetery.
