William E. Locke
William E. Locke, 86, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Monday, Aug. 6, 2018, at Brooks Hospital and joined his Lord and Savior and his best friend and wife, LaVerne.
William was born July 27, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Harry A. and Elizabeth (Hill) Locke.
He served in the U.S Air Force from 1952-53 and was a member of the American Legion Fredonia Memorial Post 59. He graduated from Jamestown Business College in 1971.
William was deputy director of finance for Chautauqua County for over 20 years. He was the treasurer of the County Treasurers and Finance Officers Association, a longtime member of the Fredonia First United Methodist Church, where he served as Church treasurer for many years and was district commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America.
He is survived by two children: Cheryl L. (Thomas C. III) Sullivan and William E. (Gail) Locke, Jr.; three grandchildren: Thomas C. Sullivan IV, Heather L. Sullivan and Elizabeth A. Locke
Besides his parents, William is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, LaVerne H. Locke; a granddaughter, Sarah Lynn Locke; and his brothers and sisters: Dorothy Locke, Henry Locke, Elizabeth Jones and Joseph Locke.
William enjoyed golfing, spending time with his grandchildren and children and traveling throughout the United States and Canada. Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed his many trips to Disney World with his grandchildren, where he spent his 86th birthday shortly before his passing.
Funeral services will be private. Military Honors will be accorded by the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council.
