Mary Kathryn “Kitty” Spicer

Mary Kathryn “Kitty” Spicer, 70, of Falconer. passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (July 31, 2018) in her home.

A lifelong area resident. she was born Oct. 20, 1947, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Janet Brunson Bloomquist.

She was a graduate of Falconer High School and Jamestown Community College School of Nursing. In earlier years, Kitty was employed by WCA Hospital, Dr. Wettingfeld and the Resource Center. Prior to retirement in 2006, Kitty was employed by Falconer Central School serving as the high school nurse.

Kitty was a member of the Falconer Volunteer Fire Department having served as an officer and EMT. She was also named Fireman of the Year and EMT of the Year. In addition, Kitty was a member of the Falconer Kiwanis Club, Bethlehem Lutheran Church and past member of the Norden Women’s Club. As a teenager. Kitty was a member of the 4-H and recently reacquainted with some 4-H members. They are called the Levant Siouxettes, and they enjoyed spending time together reminiscing about their past adventures in 4-H.

She enjoyed her time volunteering with her many friends in the Falconer Fire Department, taking care of her patients, working outside in her gardens, playing golf and coaching softball when her daughters played.

Surviving are two daughters: Kristin Walter of Falconer and Amy (Carlo) Cannava of Lake Placid, N.Y.; two granddaughters: Sophia Walter and Celia Cannava; her sister, Ann (Ray) Stearns of Kennedy; her brother, Jon Bloomquist of Charleston, S.C.; nieces and nephews: Bill Thomas, Joni Hale, Tori Bloomquist and Sam Bloomquist.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Janet Brunson Bloomquist on Jan. 18, 1989; her father Joseph A. Bloomquist on Sept. 24, 2014; and a brother, Joseph A. “Jody” Bloomquist on Dec. 26, 2015.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy J. Hoyer, pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Levant Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 4-7 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
