James Everett Olson

James Everett Olson, 78, of 409 School St., Sheffield, Pa., died suddenly on Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, at Warren General Hospital.

Jim was born April 6, 1940, in Warren, the son of the late Everett and Rachel Barr Olson.

He has lived in Sheffield all of his life, he started working at an early age, handing out handbills from Penn Theater (movie theater) to each resident in the Sheffield area to earn his way into the movies. He also worked as a stock boy and later a sales clerk at the Sheffield Pharmacy, while attending high school.

Jim graduated from Sheffield High School in 1950. and briefly attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy until illness forced him to resign. He later returned as a sales clerk and was appointed co-manager of the gift shop at Sheffield Pharmacy.

Jim was a Boy Scout first class in Troupe 36 of Sheffield. He was a member of the Kane Chapter, Loyal Order of DeMolay, a 50-year member of North Star Lodge 241 F&AM, and a 32 degree Mason Coudersport Consistory, where he was a member of the choir. He was a life member of the Warren County Shrine Club, member of the ZemZem Shrine in Erie and former member of the ZemZem Clowns.

He was lifelong member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, active in his younger years in Luther League Jr. and Senior Choir. Sunday school teacher, Church Council, the church men’s group and a member of the Bethany Lutheran Bible study.

On June 2, 1966, Jim began his career as a district sales representative for Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance Minneapolis, Minn., serving Warren and McKean counties and the Corry area. In 1972, he was appointed as an agent for Erie Insurance Group, Jim also sold real estate, part-time for 20 years.

Jim retired from insurance in 2002, after 36 ½ years as an agent and broker. He spent the first 10 years wintering in Florida. He loved hiking and camping in his younger years, driving his 1973 Chevy Caprice Classic convertible, walking and collecting sea shell on the beach

Jim is survived by his wife, Gloria Boutelle Olson, whom he married Octo. 30, 1976, in Lakewood, N.Y; two daughters: Pamela (Jeff) Mcmillin, Boca Grande, Fla., and Michele (Aaron) Mattison, Muskego, Wis., one son, Brian (Michelle) Olson. Mars. Pa.; three grandsons: Paul and Andrew Olson of Mars, Pa., and Connor Mattison Muskego, Wis.; one granddaughter, Macy Mattison, Muskego Wis.; brother-in-law, Don (Michele) Boutelle Jr. of Sheffield; one nephew; two nieces; and three grand- nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sonya Kay Olson in May 1986; and an infant brother in June of 1943.

Friends will be received at the Borden Funeral Home in Sheffield, on Thursday, Aug. 23, from 4-8 p.m. Members of the North Star Lodge 241 will be presenting the Masonic Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, Aug. 24, at Bethany Lutheran Church at 11 a.m .,with Pastor Paul Lubold officiating. Burial will be in the Sheffield Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Shriners Hospital Unit, Erie Pa., or the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Service, or Bethany Lutheran Church.
