Jack A. Okesson
Jack A. Okesson, 82, a resident of Wheaton, Ill., died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018, at Windsor Park in Carol Stream, Ill. He was born May 18, 1936, in Jamestown, N.Y., to Otto and Bertrice Okesson. Jack was a 1954 graduate from Jamestown High School.
Jack received his Bachelor of Science from Taylor University in Indiana and his Master of Arts from Syracuse University. He was a high school science teacher in Worcester Mass., Kijabe Kenya, and Liverpool, N.Y.
Jack’s love for his Lord took high priority in his life, followed by love of his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was an ardent reader, a fascinated observer of God’s creation, a devotee of classical music (especially Bach), and an eager traveler. His travels included Kenya, the Caribbean, the American West, Hawaii, Europe and Turkey. He also taught high school science at the Rift Valley Academy in Kenya for four years.
Jack served in his local church everywhere he has lived during his adult life. After years of teaching adult Sunday school and serving as a deacon, he was thrilled to have the opportunity to help print the weekly bulletin at College Church in Wheaton. During his last few weeks of life, Jack looked forward to heaven and to seeing his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and he frequently asked others if he would see them there.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice Okesson of Wheaton; three sons: Scott (Christina) Okesson of Wheaton, Gregg (Kimberly) Okesson of Wilmore, Ky., and Todd (Megan) Okesson of Des Moines, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Emmaline Okesson, Lauren (Seth) Bosco-Tennyson, Lauren Okesson, Isaiah Okesson, Anna Okesson, Anders Okesson, Elijah Okesson, Jack Okesson and Caleb Okesson; his sister, Joan (Robert) Winter; his brother, James Okesson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karin Okesson; and his sister, Jean (Jerry) Haglund.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Au. 18, 2018, at 10 a.m., at Windsor Park, 124 Windsor Park Drive, Carol Stream, Ill.
