Charles R. “Charlie” Cannon

ARLINGTON, Va. — Charles R. “Charlie” Cannon. 98, of Thornton Road, Gerry, town of Ellington, passed away, Tuesday, June 19, 2018, in the Halquist Memorial Hospice Center in Arlington, Va.

He was born Aug. 10, 1919, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late Edwin and Mildred (Samson) Cannon. He was a 1937 graduate of the former Ellington High School.

Charlie retired as a truck driver for Boss Linco Trucking Company of Buffalo and operated out of their Jamestown office. He also was hobby farmer in Ellington, where also produced Maple Syrup.

Charlie was the founder of the Ellington Rod & Gun Club, he was a social member of the Randolph American Legion Post 181 and was a member of the former Randolph Loyal Order of the Moose. Charlie was a gifted card player and was an avid golfer and former member of the Conewango Folks (Cardinal Hills) Golf Club in Randolph.

He is survived by his son, Thomas A. Cannon of Arlington, Va.; a brother, Edwin and wife, Mary Cannon of Mayville; step children: James (Liz) Boyer of Englewood, Fla., David (Lisa) Boyer of Randolph, Terri (Bob) Milbrandt of Ellington and Natalie Boyer of Randolph; his nephew and long-time caregiver, Ralph Silleman; 7 grandchildren; many great- great-grandchildren; and his son-in-law, Jim Lundsten of Ellington.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolee Eddy Cannon, whom he married on Feb. 25, 1984, and who preceded him on Feb. 26, 2016; a son, Robert Canon; a daughter, Dianne M. Lundsten; and two brothers, Lawrence and Robert Cannon.

The family will receive family and friends from 10-11 a.m., Friday (June 29, 2018) in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph. Funeral services will follow immediately after the visitation. The Rev. W. Mike Trenchard, will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the Valley View Cemetery in Ellington.
