K. Robert “Bob” Luce Jr.
RANDOLPH — K. Robert “Bob” Luce Jr., 87, of Lebanon Road, Randolph, passed away, Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, at the UPMC Chautauqua WCA.
He was born April 26, 1930, in Butler, Pa., the son of the late Kenneth Robert and Mabel (Thompson) Luce Sr.
Bob was a 1949 graduate of Wellsville High School and had attended meat cutting school for butchering in Toledo, Ohio. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1949-53 during the Korean War era.
He retired in 1992 from MRC-SKF in Falconer after 39 years of service as a millwright. In earlier years, he had worked as a butcher at the A&P Grocery Store in Syracuse, N.Y.
Bob attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Randolph, and was a member of the Randolph American Legion Post 181. He had been a Boy Scout as a young man, where he earned Eagle Scout status. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his shop at home and doing woodworking. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Colleen Anne Smith Luce, whom he married on Nov. 24, 1955, in the First Baptist Church of Randolph; a daughter, Linda Gambrell of Madison, Tenn.; four sons: Dale (Karen) Luce of Pittsburgh, Michael Luce and Timothy Luce of Randolph and Patrick (Derae) Luce of Jamestown. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Ronnie Gambrell of Florida, Matthew Gambrell of Tennessee, Arianna Volghtcherna and Katie Gess of Pittsburgh; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive family and friends from 2 -5 p.m. Sunday, (March 4, 2018) at the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, from where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Joseph Janaczek, priest of St. Patrick’s Church in Randolph will officiate. Burial and military honors will follow at the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Randolph.
