Howard J. Knipe Jr.

Howard J. Knipe Jr., 81, of Bemus Point, N.Y., and Yankeetown, Fla., peacefully passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, in Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, Fla.

He was born July 9, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of the late Howard J. Knipe Sr. and Gertrude Garlitz Knipe. He married Alma “Toots” Knipe on Nov. 9, 1974, in Jamestown, N.Y., and who passed away Sept. 11, 2017.

He was the father of Sandra Rhinehart of Monroe, N.C., Mary Kathleen Knipe of Elberta, Ala., Howard Scott Knipe (Brenda) of Bemus Point, N.Y., and Rebecca Jordan (Toby) of Lottsville, Pa.; and stepson, Stanley Davis (Cindy) of Busti, N.Y. Howard had eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Matt) Owen of Indian Traill, N.C., Daniel Rhinehart of Concord, N.C., Ryan Kinsey, Elberta, Ala., Nolan Knipe of Bemus Point, N.Y., Jaimie (Andy) Knight of Ripley, N.Y., Jodee (Chris) McGuire of Erie, Pa., Jenna (Nick) Thomas of Warren, Pa., and Stanley (Kim) Davis of Busti, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren: Logan Owen of Indian Trail, N.C., Kysen Kinsey of Elberta, Ala., and Emma and Alivia Knight of Ripley, N.Y.; three sisters: Joan Delach, Pittsburgh, Pa., Edith Jenkins (Dick), Fredrick, Md., and and Trudy Figley, South Mills, N.C. Along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Howard was a talented craftsman who worked with his father for many years building custom homes in Pittsburgh, and then subcontracted with Ryan Homes. In 1966, the family moved to Bemus Point, N.Y., and he continued remodeling and building homes. The last 10 years, he has restored many beautiful antique cars and enjoyed showing off his work at local car shows. His last restoration was a 1939 Ford Woodie Sedan that was a replica of the sedan his family delivered fresh chickens in. He enjoyed golfing and wood working.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janet Suzanne Knipe, Oct. 12, 1954.

The family will have a celebration of life later this spring.
