Betty Lou Skinner

Betty Lou Skinner, formerly of Ripley, N.Y., received her heavenly angel wings on Nov. 27, 2017, following a long illness. She had been a resident of LECON Senior Living Center/Mill Creek Manor in Erie, Pa. Prior to becoming a patient at the Mill Creek Manor, she had lived with her daughter, Mary Hoffman, in Union City, Pa.

Betty was born on May 5, 1931 to the late Basil Eugene and Anna Mary (Thomas) Skinner.

She was married to the late Lloyd Skinner Sr. and spent her lifetime as a wife and homemaker caring for her family. Betty Lou had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Ripley, N.Y., and the Parade Street Methodist Church in Union City, Pa.

Being an active member of the community, she was involved with the Ripley Grange, the Junior Memorial Day Dinner and was designated as an officer of elections. Betty Lou was also honored as the Ripley Citizen of the Year. In her spare time, she enjoyed plastic needlepoint and making gifts for family and friends for the holidays.

Betty Lou is survived by her sisters, Marjorie (Charles) Kulpa, Hazel (Richard) LaCarmen, sister-in-law, Ellen Skinner and brothers, Clarence Skinner and LaVern (Nancy) Skinner. She is further survived by her children, Mary Hoffman, Jean Whiteneck, Catherine (Paul) Klinger, Donna (Dave) Blackman, Everette (Kelly) Skinner, and Mark (Darby) Skinner, twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, five great,great,grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sons, Lloyd M. “Stub” Skinner, Jr., and Earl Skinner, sons-in-law, James Hoffman, Sr. and Frank Whitneck; sisters, Gladys Volk, Mildred Smith, Esther Jaggi, and Josephine Skinner; brothers, Basil,Jr., Ernest, Edward, Alan Skinner and brothers-in-law, Robert Smith and Charles Volk.

Betty Lou’s Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Ripley, N.Y. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service and may call at the church on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

All arrangements have been entrusted to Michael R. Fantauzzi, director of Mathews Funeral Home, 144 West Main Street, Ripley, N.Y. Donations in her memory can be made to the First Baptist Church in Ripley, N.Y.
