John R. Lown

John R. Lown, 70, of Bemus Point, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2017) in his home.

A lifelong area resident, he was born Jan. 6, 1947, in Jamestown, the son of the late Maurice “Bud” and Lucille “Petie” (Kidder) Lown.

John was a 1966 graduate of Maple Grove High School and Jamestown Business College with a degree in accounting. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War era.

Prior to retirement, he was employed by Chautauqua County as a printer for 30 years. He was a member of the Maple Syrup Producers of WNY, Bee Keepers Association, Antique Equipment Association, Chautauqua County Corvette Club and Cornell Cooperative Extension.

John enjoyed every part of the maple syrup process, bee keeping and honey production, apples and cider, attending auctions, hunting and fishing, Corvettes, gardening, enjoying life to the fullest and making people laugh.

Surviving are his wife, Gale Stoddard Lown, whom he married May 19, 1973, in Jamestown; two daughters: Jenell (Nathan) Chase of Jamestown and Johanna Lown (Ryan Eddy) of Bemus Point; a granddaughter, Alahna Lown Chase; four sisters: Joan (Joao) Cabral of Rochester, N.Y/, Julie (Monty) Hatch of Bemus Point, Barbara (Butch) Schlagenhauf of South Carolina and Sylvia (John) Conti of Kentucky; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice “Bud” and Lucille “Petie” Lown.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Bemus Point United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Bill Allen, pastor of the church will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the Falconer Funeral Home.
