Ellis F. Johnson

Ellis F. Johnson, 81, of 2760 Tompkins Road, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, in his home, surrounded by his wife and family.

He was born July 5, 1936, in Jamestown and was raised along with his two sisters in the foster home of Ed and Alvie Marker of Bemus Point.

He was a 1955 graduate of Jamestown High School.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served from 1956-57 aboard the USS Lake Champlain CVA 39.

Prior to his retirement, we was employed by the Board of Public Utilities as a mechanic for 30 years.

He was a member of Falconer United Methodist Church and served on the board of trustees. He was also a member of War Vets Recreation and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club.

He will be remembered as a loving devoted husband and father who always put his family first. He loved spending time with his family and taking them on vacations at the beach, camping trips and family relaxations at the pool. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors feeding the birds, watching wildlife, gardening, many years of hunting, fishing and reading books. He was especially fond of his Thursday morning breakfasts with friends at the Dinner Bell. He was loved by so many and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years. Barbara S. Johnson; four children: Ronald (Cindy) Lyon of Tucson, Ariz., Randy (Jeff Smollar) Lyon of St. Paul, Minn., Rhonda (Sandy Lombardo) Sample of Jamestown and Renee (Randy) Kent of Jamestown; four grandchildren: Shawn (Leandra Coone) Sample of Falconer, Heather (Seth) Boardman of Jamestown, Kara Sample of Jamestown and Emily Kent of Brooklyn; two sisters: Faith Vega of Coopers City, Fla., and Connie Marker (Charlie) Short of Byron, Ga; several nieces and nephews and his little lap dog and best friend, Abby.

;He was preceded in death by his foster parents; brother, Jerry Marker[ and sister, Sue Curtis.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Lind Funeral Home, where friends will be received from 1-3 p.m. today.
