Maxine B. Francis

DEWITTVILLE — Maxine B. Francis, 94, formerly of Dewittville, passed to her eternal home on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at Heritage Village Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born Jan. 29, 1923, in North Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of the late Walter and Nelle Cunningham Brooks.

Maxine had been a supervisor for children’s services for Chautauqua County. She had belonged to the Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church and the Mayville Senior Citizens.

She enjoyed reading, canning, missionary outreach programs such as working in a soup kitchen and at a thrift store. Most of all, she enjoyed time with her family.

Maxine is survived by her three children, Daniel Francis of Dewittville, Marcia Ravnikar of Arkport, N.Y., and Sharon (Duane) Frudd of Stockton; seven grandchildren, Susan (Sean) Joubert, Furlow Francis, Michelle (Chris) Burke, Stacy Ravnikar, Matthew (Heidi Martin) Wilson, Bryan (Shanon) Wilson and Melissa Wilson; eight great-grandchildren, Tanalyn, Nora, and Colin Joubert, Triton Francis, Kamryn and Kenadie Wilson, and Andrea and Rion Martin; and one sister, Betty Jean Schelstrate of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Neil Francis, whom she married on Aug. 20, 1946, in Parkville, Mo.; one son, Clyde “Butch” Himes Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Alice Francis; and one great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Stockton Community Church. Rev. Jim Witherington will officiate. Burial will be in Dewittville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville
