Barry M. Cederquist

Barry M. Cederquist, 41, of Warren, Pa., died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, Pa.

A native of Jamestown, he was born Feb. 9, 1976, a son of Calvin and Sharon Blood Cederquist.

He was a 1994 graduate of Chautauqua Central School.

He was employed by Conewango Country Club as assistant superintendent and the pro shop at Jackson Valley Golf Course. Previously, Barry was a manager with Golfsmith international, a plumber at Klinginsmith, and a manager of several Ruby Tuesday locations. Barry had also volunteered with the Chautauqua Fire Department as a fireman and EMT.

He was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church where he served as a youth minister. He loved music, playing guitar, and being outdoors on the family farm, hunting, and golfing.

Always an outstanding athlete, while in high school he participated in soccer, cross country, basketball, volleyball, and track and field, often being chosen as team captain and most valuable player. He played on all star teams, was a county track champion, was voted male athlete of the year, was a recipient of the Edward Skinner Scholarship and Norman G. Becker Award for his athletic prowess and academic excellence, and was selected for Boys’ State.

Barry found his sports passion in the game of golf. He not only loved to play, but golf formed the basis for many close friendships as well as his career in which he maintained courses and was a master club fitter and builder.

While he took pride in accomplishments, Barry’s heart and soul was in helping others. Whether coaching youth soccer, giving golf lessons, developing a young employee for career advancement, or using his skills as a plumber to save the day, Barry will be remembered for his loyalty, generosity, and kind heart. He brought EPIC love and laughter to all his family and friends.

His memberships include Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, American Legion, and the United States Golf Association.

In addition to his parents of Jamestown, Barry is survived by his wife, Erica Simpson Cederquist, whom he married June 1, 2013; brother, Kevin (Danielle) Cederquist of Jamestown; sister, Carrie (Joel) Davison of Sugar Grove, Pa.; grandmother, Evelyn Blood of Jamestown; and a niece, Camryn Cederquist of Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Elmer and Evelyn Cederquist and August Blood.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan Anderson will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
