Vivian E. Curtis (Barton)

Vivian E. Curtis (Barton), 88, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2017, at 10:55 p.m., at the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center in Jamestown, N.Y.

Vivian was born Dec. 8, 1928, in Jamestown, N.Y., where she remained a lifelong resident.

Vivian was an extraordinary woman who touched countless lives with her caring heart and nourished everyone around her with her love and faith, especially her children and grandchildren.

Vivian was employed by Accredited Care (Caregivers) for 28 years, and along with her husband, James M. Curtis, owned and operated Mallare’s Restaurant where she was known for her famous beer battered fish dinners.

Vivian was a member of the Fluvanna Community Church where she spent much of her time in the kitchen cooking for the churche’s special events.

Vivian is survived by and will be terribly missed by her children: James B. Curtis of Glendale, Ariz., and his wife, Carolyn, Jeffery L. Curtis of Gerry, N.Y., David L. Curtis of Bemus Point, N.Y., and Susan L. Smith and her husband, Bradley of Ashville, N.Y. Vivian leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Tracey Curtis, Jodi Turner (Curtis) David Curtis and Amanda Caldwell (Larson), all of Jamestown, N.Y., Linnette Schmidt (Curtis) of Middletown, Ohio, Jeffery Curtis Jr., of Longmont, Colo., Jason Holbrook of Celoron, N.Y., Andrew Curtis of Kennedy, N.Y., Lyndsi Larson of Ashville, N.Y., and James Curtis of Bradenton, Fla.; along with 19 great-grandchildren.

Vivian is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James M. Curtis “Big Jim”; three sisters; three brothers; her grandson, Gary J. Holbrook; and her granddaughter, Jennifer M. Curtis.

Visitation will not be observed. A memorial service celebrating Vivian’s life will be held at Fluvanna Community Church and will be announced by Vivian’s Family.
