Charlotte Elaine Abbott Burnap
Charlotte Elaine Abbott Burnap, 103, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017.
Born in Buffalo and a proud native of Orchard Park, Charlotte was a lifelong resident of western and central New York except for when her parents lived in Cuba and Michigan. She and the love of her life, Alan H. Burnap (d. 1963), had one daughter, Susan B. Yager, who passed away May 11, 1994.
Charlotte is survived by granddaughters: Kimberly Foster (David) and Elizabeth Yager; adopted granddaughter, Hayley Everding; great-granddaughter, Adrienne Foster (Derek Halpern); great-grandson, Paul Thomas Foster (Barbra); beloved granddogs: Zoe and Mr. Bities; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom adored her.
A homemaker, caregiver, and companion, Charlotte spent her life in service. She was a dedicated member of the University United Methodist Church in Syracuse, active in the Gertrude Brown Guild, led a Girl Scout troop, and was a charter and lifetime member of the Community Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid bridge player, unbeatable at Scrabble, obsessed with tennis, and, having attended Syracuse University, closely followed both their men’s basketball and football teams.
Charlotte loved gardening and hated to go inside before the last weed had been picked. She enjoyed reading, had excellent command of the English language and was honored by having a character named after her and a dedication in the novel Bob at the Plaza by R. Murphy.
Her family would like to extend their gratitude to Charlotte’s friends, Chautauqua County Hospice, and the staff at Lutheran Social Services for their attentiveness and care.
A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Social Services chapel at 1 p.m., on July 22, 2017.
