Marvin (Marv) R. Strickland

Marvin (Marv) R. Strickland, of Russell, died on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at UPMC Hamot following a brief illness. He was born on April 8, 1933, in Sugar Grove Township. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1951. Marv served in the National Guard from 1950 to 1959. He served as the President of Stilson Hill Cemetery Association for 10 years and was an active member of the Pine Grove Lions Club for 34 years.

Marv was employed at B. F. Goodrich Tire Company for 12 years and re-tired from Falconer Glass Company after 22 years. Marv and his wife owned and operated Strickland’s Heritage House Inn in Russell, Pa., from 1982 to 2002. In retirement, he worked as a Courier for the PNC Bank and for the Allegheny National Forest Older American Program. Marv was a proud volunteer at the RSVP Toy Shoppe and at Warren Gen-eral Hospital for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick O. S. Strickland and Ella Faye Bull Strickland and his stepfather, Walter Brown. Marv, the last surviving of eight siblings, was preceded in death by Violet Pilling, Evelyn Anthony, Ester Morgach, Lois Harkins, Willis Strickland, Marie Dove Rinnell Raisley and Edwin Strickland.

Marv is survived by his wife of 57 years, Theda Marie (Pat) Patterson Strickland and the four children they raised together: Frederick(Amy) Strickland of Youngsville, Pa., Kimberly (Douglas) Ware of Suwanee, Ga., Cynthia Strickland (Jerry Christensen) of Warren, Pa., and Jared Strickland of Russell, Pa. In addition to his children, Marv is survived by his grandchildren, Matthew (Katie) Strickland of Warren, Pa., Kristin Strickland (Dave Baker) of Bradford, Pa., Danial (Samantha) Strickland of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, Brady Himes (Rev. Drew) of Plumville, Pa., Alice and Nathan Ware of Suwanee, Ga.; and great-grandchildren, Athena and Charles Strickland of Warren, Pa., and Cadenceand Grayson Strickland of Sagamore Hills, Ohio. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 18 Second St. in Youngsville, Pa., on Tuesday, March 14 from 1:30-2:30 p.m., with a celebration of life immediately following at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Condron of the Good News Church in Warren and the Rev. Richard Hamilton of the Stockton Community Church, co-officiating. Burial will be in the Stilson Hill Cemetery.
