Joseph L. LoDestro

Joseph L. LoDestro, 90, of Falconer, passed away Wednesday (March 15, 2017) in his home.

A lifelong area resident, he was born May 14, 1926, in Falconer, the son of the late Henry V. and Rose Malta LoDestro.

Joe was a 1943 graduate of Falconer High School and was a proud veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46 aboard the USS Guam in the Pacific Theatre. Joe was instrumental in organizing the USS Guam reunions in later years. He was employed by Art Metal Cor-poration and prior to retirement in 1989 was employed by Jamestown Metal Corporation as a quality control manager.

Joe was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society of OLL, served as a trustee of OLL and was a member of Henry Mosher Post 638, American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and wood working having made numerous hand crafted decorations for family and friends. Joe also enjoyed golfing and traveling.

Surviving are two sons: Henry “Hank” LoDestro of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and James J. (Christine) LoDestro of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters: Rosemary Anderson of Marietta, Ga., and Mary Ann (Bob) Morris of Falconer; 10 grandchildren: Gregory (Hope) Anderson, Pamela (Andrew) Sigular, Denise LoDestro, Robert J. (Heather) Morris, Nicholas J. (Rebecca) LoDestro, Joseph Morris, Megan LoDestro, Daniel (Katie) LoDestro, Samuel LoDestro and Hen-ry LoDestro; a stepgrandson, Payton Pirzadeh; 10 great-grandchildren: Makaelynn Graves, Emma, Ella and Joseph Anderson, Mary Beth, Leanne Sigular, Mia, Cole Morris and Macie and Luke LoDestro; and a sister, Rose Marie Pane of Gilbert, Ariz.

Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Nina M. Gaeta LoDestro, whom he married Sept. 27, 1947, in Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, and who died Jan. 20, 2013.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017, in Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph A. Janac-zek, pastor of Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 1:30- 3:30 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Altar and Rosary Society of OLL will conduct a rosary service at 1:30 p.m., Friday in the funeral home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
