Merlon E. Ramsey

Merlon E. Ramsey, 90, of Jamestown, passed away Friday (Feb. 24, 2017) in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.

An area resident most of his life, he was born Sept. 7, 1926, in Hiram, Maine, the son of the late Herbert E. and Florence Blackmar Ramsey.

Merlon attended Cassadaga Valley High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and the Korean War in the Mediterranean aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard.

He was employed by Premium Tool & Die for 35 years retiring in 1985. Merlon also held his real-estate brokers license having sold for Stahlman Real-Estate and owned and operated Ramsey Real- Estate.

He attended Camp Street United Methodist Church and was a member of the Ira Lou Spring Post 149, American Legion and Lake Affect Trail Breakers. Merlon was devoted to his family and enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, hunting and various outdoor sports.

Surviving are his two children: Mark (Sherry) Ramsey of Lakewood, and Shelley Ramsey of Jamestown; six grandchildren: Ryan Wiltsie, Shawn (Nancy) Ramsey, Chad Ramsey, Mark Ramsey Jr., Heather Ramsey, Megan (Jason) Burch and 15 great- grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Brenton and Vernon Ramsey.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, chaplain of Lutheran will officiate. Burial will be in Veterans Grove of Lake View Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 5-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
