Virginia F. “Ginny” Lind

Virginia F. “Ginny” Lind, 89, of Jamestown, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, in Memory Garden.

She was born April 4, 1927, in East Liverpool, Ohio, a daughter of the late Willard and Helen Wheat Thomas.

She was a 1945 graduate of Jamestown High School, was the first recipient of the 100 Member Club Award, served on the club’s board for over 25 years and co-chaired class reunions for many years. She graduated from Alfred Extension in 1947.

Prior to starting her family, she was employed by the former Nelson’s Department Store in the advertising department.

For many years, she was a very active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in virtually every ministry serving as youth group leader, choir member and director, Sunday school teacher, Ruth and Martha Circles member, Elder and Deacon. In more recent years, she joined Zion Covenant Church, where she sang in the choir.

She was involved in many civic organizations and as a member often held leadership positions of president, chairperson or board member. Her memberships include Westside Women’s Club, Zonta Club, Women of the Year in 1977, Marvin Community House, YWCA, Creche, and Jamestown Boys and Girls Club. Whether she was running a golf tournament, shopper’s luncheon or fundraising effort, Ginny was a tireless volunteer over her many decades of work in the community.

Ginny was a loving wife, mom and nana. She lived her life by her Christ-centered faith always there to be a friend, lend a hand, volunteer or be a listening ear.

She touched the lives of all who knew her.

Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Robert C. Lind, whom she married May 1, 1949; three children: Robin (Russ) Bonfi-glio of Jamestown, Lori (Jill Ryan) Lind of Petos-key, Mich., and Thomas “TR” (Kathie) Lind of Oviedo, Fla.; six grandchildren: Drew (Emily) Bonfiglio of Somerville, Mass., Mandy (Jeff) Kraska of Tonawanda, N.Y., Keenan, Juliana and Annelise Lind of Oviedo and Oktaveon Ryan of Petoskey; and two great-grandchildren: Abrielle Kraska and Scarlett Bonfiglio.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Olson in 2011.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Zion Covenant Church. The Rev. Rick Miller will officiate.

Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home.
