James R. Everhart

James R. Everhart, 92, of Gerry, N.Y., passed away early Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing.

He was born July 6, 1924, in Fairmount, Ind., the son of the late Clarence F. and Edith White Everhart, and had lived most of his life in Grant County, Ind.

Jim was a 1942 graduate of Fairmount High School and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He graduated from Purdue University in 1950 and was employed by the American Electric Power Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1987.

Jim was active in the 4-H Program and a past president of the Grant County 4-H Fair Board in Indiana. He was also active in the Meals on Wheels program as a driver and board member.

Locally, he was a member of the Gerry Free Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Baldwin Everhart, whom he married April 5, 1969; a daughter, Linda S. Everhart-Krug of Sheridan, Wyo.; two sons: Richard J. Everhart of Palm Springs, Calif., and Mark A. Everhart of Munfordville, Ky; a granddaughter, Jill A. Deckard of Rockford, Mich.; as well as three great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorthy M. Conner.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, in Seeley Auditorium of the Retirement Campus, Gerry, N.Y., officiated by the Rev. Samuel Shreffler.

Inurnment will be in Park Cemetery, Fairmount, Ind.

The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of one’s choice.
