Dorothy Frances Kent

Dorothy Frances Kent, 91, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, in Prescott, Ariz., following a brief illness.

Dorothy was born in Sheffield, Pa., on Sept. 24, 1925, the daughter of Zigmont Joseph Kaczar and Mary Catherine (Przbycien) Kaczar.  A native of Jamestown, N.Y., for more than 50 years, she relocated with her husband, Howard Kent to Arizona in 2004.

Surviving are three children: her daughter, Kathy (Kent) Kennady of Redwood City, Calif; her two sons:  Timothy Kent of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, and Dennis Kent of Prescott Valley, Ariz. Dorothy was a grandmother to eight (ordered by age): Jennifer Flores, Kory Kent, Melissa Auxier, Kimberly Kent, Kristen Sink, Daniel Kent, David Kent and Kourtney Kent. She was also a great-grandmother to 11 (ordered by age): Will VanHoose, Gianna Flores, Clayton Auxier, Elisa Flores, Andrew Kent, Owen Shelton, Evelyn Shelton, Oliver Shelton, Hale Kent, Emily Kent and Jayden Sink. Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Henry Kent of Prescott Valley, Ariz., whom she married Sept. 22, 1951, and who died Aug 5, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Frank Kaczar, Julie (Kaczar) Bell, John Kaczar and Joseph Kaczar.

Dorothy was a graduate of Lander High School and was valedictorian of her class. In earlier years, she was employed by Sylvania Electric Products Inc. and MRC/TRW (now SKF) where she met her husband, Howard. For several years, Dorothy worked at The Jamestown Post-Journal as a route driver and in other departments.

A member of Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Dorothy loved spending time with her family, was an avid gardener and football fan.  She also had fun playing cards and horseshoes.  In her later years, Dorothy took great pleasure tending to her flowers in Prescott Valley.

Services will be held at Hampton Funeral Home in Prescott, Ariz., on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016. Burial will be at the Pioneer’s Home Cemetery in Prescott, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to  the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) or the National Kidney Foundation of Arizona.
