Ruth A. Welch

ONOVILLE, N.Y. – Ruth A. Welch, 90, of Braley Hill Road, Onoville, town of South Valley, went home to be with the Lord in her sleep on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at home after an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 12, 1926, in Olive Hill, Ky., the daughter of the late Arthur and Mausie Ferguson Spillman.

Ruth attended Mineral Ridge High School in Mineral Ridge, Ohio. She was a home maker and in her younger days, had worked for Isley’s Dairy in Niles, Ohio, and Packard Electric in Warren, Ohio. Ruth attended the Steamburg United Methodist Church. She had attended the Randolph ECHO senior nutrition program and Circling Squares Dance Group.

Her interests included, flower arranging and gardening, singing and doing music ministry with her late husband, the Rev. James Welch at nursing homes and hospitals.

She is survived by her son and caregiver, James D. Welch of Onoville; two sisters: Florence Griffith’s of Girard, Ohio, and Betty Dunmire of Fla.; and a brother, Leonard “Lee” Spillman of Albuquerque, N.M.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. James M. Welch, whom she married Dec. 19, 1947, in Evansville, Ohio, and who preceded her on Dec. 24, 2009; and siblings: Connie, Olive, Zearle, Donald and an infant sister.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, in the in the VanRensselaer and Son Funeral Home, Randolph. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev Rick Peters officiating. Burial will be in the Steamburg Cemetery.
