Hunters Found Safe After Becoming Lost In Woods

CHERRY CREEK — Two youths were found safe after becoming lost while hunting Saturday afternoon.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the pair around 1:40 p.m. County dispatch, utilizing GPS, attempted to guide the youths out of the woods in the area of Boutwell Hill Road near Cherry Creek.

However, communication with the hunters was lost due to their cellphone battery dying, the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Sunday.

A K-9 Unit responded to the scene and conducted a search in the wooded area where the cellphone was last pinged. Despite directions from dispatch, the hunters left the area.

A search of the woods was conducted by the Sheriff’s Office and New York State Forest Rangers. The two hunters were eventually located unharmed.
