An Arcade man faces charges after allegedly trying to flee Jamestown police officers early Monday morning.

Jamestown police officers reported seeing a gray PT Cruiser driving on Steele Street with no plate lamps and failing to keep right. When they tried to pull the vehicle over the driver refused to stop, leading police on a chase through Jamestown, into Falconer, onto Interstate 86 and eventually into Cattaraugus County. The chase ended just west of Salamanca when the vehicle went off the road into a median and crashed into an embankment.

The driver, Jeffrey M. Rigerman, 35, of Arcade, allegedly had valid arrest warrants from Jamestown City Court and from the Arcade Police Department. Rigerman was charged with third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, reckless driving and several vehicle and traffic infractions. He was taken to the Jamestown City Jail until he could be arraigned.

In addition to the Jamestown Police Department, the Ellicott Police Department, New York State Police, Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Park Police and Salamanca Police Department also assisted.
