Meth Lab Found In Car After High-Speed Chase

LAKEWOOD — An active methamphetamine lab was reportedly found in a vehicle shortly after a Fredonia man was jailed for stealing merchandise at Walmart in Lakewood and leading police on a high-speed chase earlier this week.

Charged was 32-year-old Tyler R. Elsesser after police were called Monday to the 350 E. Fairmount Ave. store around 7:50 p.m. for a reported larceny in progress. When officers with the Lakewood-Busti Police Department arrived, Elsesser was seen leaving the Walmart parking lot in a red Nissan sedan.

The Fredonia man allegedly fled westbound on East Fairmount Avenue at a high rate of speed when officers attempted a traffic stop. The pursuit continued on Route 474 into the town of Busti and later Harmony when it ended.

Elsesser was taken into custody and reportedly found with the stolen merchandise and a controlled substance. Lakewood-Busti police obtained a search warrant, and with the help of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force and state police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team, determined an active methamphetamine lab was in the car.

Elsesser was charged with petit larceny, third-degree unlawful fleeing, second-degree reckless endangerment, second- and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia and third-degree unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine. He was arraigned in Busti Town Court and remanded to the Chautauqua County Court on $30,000 bail.
