Ohio Man Charged With ‘Snowmobiling While Intoxicated’ After Crash
MAYVIILE — A Ohio man was charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated after Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies found a snowmobile on its side early Saturday.
Deputies discovered the snowmobile around 2:30 a.m. on Trail 4 in the village of Mayville. An investigation determined 55-year-old Kevin A. Ropes of Rocky River, Ohio, had tipped his machine after leaving the groomed portion of the trial.
The snowmobile was found on its side in soft, unpacked snow, the Sheriff’s Office said Saturday in a press release. Deputies did not state whether Ropes was injured in the incident.
Ropes was found to be intoxicated and taken into custody. He was charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated and SWI per se, and is scheduled to appear in Chautauqua Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
In New York, snowmobiling while intoxicated is a misdemeanor and mirrors in law that of driving under the influence of a motor vehicle.
