Jamestown Youth Rescued From Chadakoin River After Fleeing Police Early Sunday Morning

FALCONER — A 17-year-old had to be pulled from the Chadakoin River after fleeing from police officers at 12:36 a.m. Sunday.

According to a police report, Ellicott police officers responded to a burglary in progress at the Budget Inn, 2 E. Main St., Falconer. As officers arrived on the scene, the Jamestown youth ran toward the Falconer Fire Hall before jumping into the Chadakoin River. Ellicott police were assisted by the New York State Police, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office K-9 setting up a perimeter at the scene.

The youth was eventually pulled from the river after surrendering to officers with the assistance of K-9 officer Link from the county Sheriff’s Office.

Police allege the youth unlawfully entered a private bedroom belonging to the motel manager and stole several items from the room. The youth was charged with third-degree burglary, petit larceny, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, was arraigned in Ellicott Town Court and taken to the Chautauqua County Jail.
