City Woman Charged With Welfare Fraud

A Jamestown woman is scheduled to appear in court after allegedly accepting undue welfare benefits.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Christina K. Johnson, 38, was issued an appearance ticket Monday morning for charges of third-degree grand larceny, third-degree welfare fraud, misuse of food stamps and first-degree offering a false instrument.

The charges allege that Johnson failed to properly notify the Chautauqua County Department of Social Services that she had gained employment/income while receiving SNAP/food stamp benefits from Dec. 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015. This unreported income allowed for Johnson to receive $4,335.00 in unentitled benefits. Johnson is scheduled to appear in the City of Jamestown Court at a later date.
