City Man Wanted For Assault Jailed After Striking Tree

A city man who allegedly punched a woman and pulled out the majority of her hair during a domestic incident was jailed after he struck a tree while driving drunk Saturday morning, the Jamestown Police Department said.

Brian S. Morath, 37, was taken into custody at his residence following an investigation by police.

Officers responded around 11 a.m. to the area of 211 Front St. for a motor vehicle crash and reportedly found Morath walking away from the scene. Police learned Morath was traveling westbound when his vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, left the road and struck a tree.

Morrath, who was found to be in an intoxicated condition, had been wanted following a domestic incident several hours earlier at his residence.

Police were called to UPMC Chautauqua WCA hospital shortly before 10 a.m. and spoke with a woman who said Morath punched her several times in the face. The woman told police Morath also allegedly dragged her by the hair around the home, causing most of her hair to be pulled out, police said Saturday in a press release.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m.

After Morath was found at his residence, he was taken into custody and held at Jamestown City Jail. He was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree unlawful imprisonment and fourth-degree criminal mischief in the domestic incident.

The city man was also charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to keep right and uninspected motor vehicle in the crash. Morath was being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
