Snowmobiler Hurt In Collision With Vehicle In Chautauqua

CHAUTAUQUA — A snowmobiler was injured after being struck by a vehicle late Friday in the town of Chautauqua.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies responded to Stockton-Hartfield Road for a motor-vehicle crash shortly after 10 p.m. Deputies learned Gregory E. Auge, of Sherman, was operating a snowmobile when he reportedly failed to yield the right of way and entered the road from a nearby trail.

An eastbound vehicle, being driven by 23-year-old Joshua M. Luce, of Forestville, struck the snowmobile, the force of which caused Auge to be thrown to the ground.

Auge was transported to the hospital for undisclosed injuries. Charges are pending an investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said Saturday in a press release.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted Friday by firefighters from Mayville and Hartfield.

“The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all snowmobilers to be cautious when they are out riding, and to make sure that they are paying attention to the signage that is placed on the trails by the snowmobile clubs,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Riders are also asked to use extra caution when crossing the roadway.”
