Jamestown Man Charged After 14-Year-Old Found Driving

A Jamestown man was awaiting arraignment after police found him in a vehicle driven by a 14-year-old early Sunday in the city.

Officers observed a vehicle cross a double-yellow line while making a wide right turn from Washington to West 10th streets around 2:30 a.m. The vehicle was stopped near Washington and Lafayette streets, where it was determined the vehicle was being driven by the juvenile, police reported Sunday.

A passenger in the vehicle, 26-year-old Demetrius K. Goldsmith, was found to be in an “intoxicated condition,” police said.

Goldsmith was taken into custody and charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child and facilitating unlicensed operation.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and the child was returned unharmed to a parent. Goldsmith was transported to Jamestown City Jail.
