City Man Jailed After Striking Vehicle, Building While Intoxicated

A Jamestown man was being held in city jail on drug and drunken driving charges after reportedly striking a vehicle and a building early Saturday.

Dale R. Linkous, 18, was observed by Jamestown police driving a Dodge Ram in a reckless manner around 3:30 a.m. in the area of Barrett and Newland avenues. Police saw Linkous drive off the road, becoming stuck on a curb.

However, when attempting to approach the pickup truck, police said Linkous reportedly began revving the engine loudly — creating a large amount of smoke. As a result, the truck began to fishtail and lurch forward across the the road and into the front yard of a residence on Newland Avenue.

Additional officers responded to the scene and Linkous was eventually taken into custody. An investigation determined Linkous to be “highly intoxicated and in possession of cocaine and marijuana,” Jamestown police said Saturday.

Afterward, Linkous’ vehicle was seen smoking and observed to have significant front-end damage.

A 9-1-1 dispatcher advised officers of two separate hit-and-run crashes involving a red Dodge Ram pickup truck earlier that morning. One crash involved a truck striking another vehicle with another involving a truck striking a building.

No further information regarding location or damage was made available by police.

Officers determined that Linkous allegedly fled the scene from a property damage accident, though JPD did not specify which incident.

Linkous was transported to city jail where he was awaiting arraignment in Jamestown City Court. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, reckless driving, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and numerous vehicle and traffic offenses.
