Olean Man To Pay $67K Restitution For Welfare Fraud
An Olean man convicted of multiple fraudulent welfare acts has been ordered to pay a restitution of $67,282.69.
Shawn Chastain, 40, who was convicted of second-degree welfare fraud, a class C felony; second-degree grand larceny, a class C felony; and four counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, class E felonies; will pay the restitution to the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services.
According to Lori Pettit Rieman, Cattaraugus County district attorney, the incidents occurred between April 2010 and September 2014, when Chastain committed fraudulent welfare acts and thereby obtained public assistance benefits exceeding $50,000.
