Pennsylvania Man Charged With DWI After Striking Semi

SHERMAN – A Pennsylvania man was charged with drunken driving following a crash involving a tractor trailer Wednesday night on Interstate 86 in the village of Sherman.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded about 10:30 p.m. for a report of a car stopped on the interstate and later determined there had been a motor vehicle crash. An investigation found that 52-year-old Daniel R. Rossman of Fairview, Pa., was traveling westbound on I-86 when he struck the rear of tractor trailer, also westbound.

The crash caused significant damage to Rossman’s vehicle, sheriff’s deputies said. The semi driver, however, was unaware that he had been hit and continued on I-86.

Police said Rossman was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the crash and was taken into custody. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI per se, following too closely and parking on the highway

Rossman was released with tickets to appear in Sherman Town Court at a later date.

Anyone who might have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
