The owners of the Southside Plaza have responded to the news that the Tastee Corners building could be demolished.

On Monday, The Post-Journal received a statement from the owners of the Southside Plaza who made the decision to take down the existing Tastee Corners building because it needs many repairs. The owners would like to construct a new building to replace the current Tastee Corners building.

“We cannot continue financially to put a band-aid on the extensive repairs needed to the building to make it a functioning business,” the ownership group stated. “We decided to build something that is structurally sound and be in place for many years to come. We have never referred to the prospective new structure as being a strip mall.”

The letter states that the Southside Plaza ownership group has had a good working relationship with Tastee Corners officials, which is owned by Robo Enterprises.

“At no time have we referred to our building as an eyesore,” the letter states. “We recognize how important Tastee Corners has been to the history of the Southside of Jamestown. To that end, it has always been our intention to give Tastee Corners the first choice to occupy one of the spaces in our new building. Our new building would give Tastee Corners the opportunity to be open year-round to service all of its loyal customers.”

The letters states if the owners of the Southside Plaza receive the necessary permits and approval to go forward with their new building project, they are more than willing to give the Tastee Corners building to its last occupant Robo Enterprises, which is owned by Kim Carlson. The letter states Carlson could move the current Tastee Corners building to one of the Robo Enterprises locations throughout the county.

“This was not an easy decision to make,” the letter states. “We respect all of the fond memories associated with this building and sincerely hope it can be relocated by Ms. Carlson to a location that will give the loyal customers a place to go for many more years. We ask for your kindness and patience as we move forward with this exciting development to grow our Southside of Jamestown.”

Last week, Carlson told The Post-Journal that they own the Tastee Corners business and the equipment, but they lease the building from the owners of the Southside Plaza. She said last spring she received a letter from an attorney for Southside Plaza officials that Robo Enterprises needed to be out of the building by Oct. 31 and that their lease would not be continued.
