A Jamestown man is in custody after allegedly firing a gun in the area of Prendergast Avenue and Eighth Street on Thursday.

Detectives with the Jamestown Police Department, who were already near the area, responded to the scene around 12:40 p.m., where they reportedly observed a man running away with a handgun.

The man was apprehended in the 800 block of Spring Street after leading police on a brief foot pursuit. He was identified as 18-year-old Eduardo L. Rivera and charged with second-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of second-degree obstructing governmental administration, discharge of firearm within city limits and two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment.

Police said a perimeter was set up by officers as well as a crime scene on Prendergast Avenue where a spent shell case was found. K-9 units Mitchell and Miro from the JPD and Lakewood-Busti Police Department, respectively, were requested for a firearms search. A loaded Lorcin .380 was found.

No injuries were reported.
