Local Man Charged After Three-Hour Stand-Off On Baker Street

Alberto Acevedo

A knife-wielding man was taken into custody Friday after reportedly barricading himself inside a Baker Street residence for more than three hours.

The incident began around 10:45 a.m., when Jamestown police responded to a disturbance call at 242 McKinley Ave. Police learned that Alberto J. Acevedo, 27, allegedly fled the McKinley Avenue home to avoid capture for an outstanding parole violation warrant.

Acevedo later took hold of a knife and barricaded himself inside a small room on the second floor of a 131 Baker St. residence. Jamestown police crisis negotiators and SWAT members were called to the scene to assist.

After more than three hours, SWAT members made entry into the room and forcibly took Acevedo into custody around 2:20 p.m.

Acevedo was taken to UPMC Chautauqua WCA for a physical evaluation. He was later taken to Chautauqua County Jail for a parole violation.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.

According to arrest reports, Acevedo is no stranger to the law.

In April 2014, he was apprehended in one of seven drug raids conducted by the Jamestown Police Department, New York State Police and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Acevedo, then 24, was located at a 228 E. Second St. residence, and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and an outstanding probation warrant.

According to police, investigators seized large quantities of heroin, cash and drug paraphernalia including syringes, weapons and prescription medication during the raids.
