Three City Children Evacuated From Now-Condemned Home

Three small children have been relocated following an investigation into deplorable living conditions of a city home.

Jamestown Police were called to the scene of a residence at 80 Hazzard St. just before noon on Sunday to investigate the welfare of three small children ages 5, 7 and 8. Officers and Child Protective Service agents observed deplorable living conditions inside the home. Of note, feces, trash and junk was found throughout the home and on the floors; leaking pipes and ceiling tiles were also coming down.

The Department of Development was called in and condemned the home on scene.

The occupants, Merle Smith, 35, and Kimberly Scriven, 37, were both charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The three children were taken by family members to another location. Three dogs were also taken to an animal shelter.

Smith and Scriven were transported to city jail and were awaiting arraignment.
